Question.
Do you need to pre-register? Or do you just go straight to the seminar according to the schedule posted online, in order to attend?
Also, at the end of the seminar, is that when they will affix the sticker to your passport? |

All you need is to attend CFO seminar, every Filipino Spouse married to a Foreign National is required to attend the said seminar. You dont need PDOS if your applying for family class sponsorship its not on the checklist. If you will attend the seminar and if you have to your visa already then you can secure for the sticker right away but then if not, you will have to go back for the sticker once you have your visa already. I got mine in Cebu, I am not sure if same procedure goes with the Manila branch.

Accdg to the CFO website u need to go to the CFO seminar for Filipinos are married to Foreign Nationals. For the rest of the Filipinos who intend to leave the country, OFWs and all immigrants(family-class and independent) only the PDOS is required.

I suppose Foreign Nationals refer to those born and raised from outside the country or are those naturalized citizens of Canada considered foreign nationals already?
Also, would the person sponsored under common law spouse or conjugal partnership category still be required to attend the counselling?
Cheers!

i would say the counselling. the counselling is basically the same as the seminar except it has extra advice for people with relationships to foreigners. you have the seminar part with other spouses but then you have a short one on one counselling session after. thats the difference.

Thanks for the response canflip. I maybe a bit slow today because of lack of sleep but can you confirm if your answer mean naturalized citizens of Canada is also considered 'foreign nationals'? Reason I'm asking this is because I am filipino by birth but is now a canadian citizen so we want to know if my partner would be required to take the counselling before his departure. I checked the definition of "nationality" and it states that in general, a person's nationality is determined by his/her place of birth, but can also be acquired later on in life through 'naturalization'. If I am not mistaken, you are a Canadian by birth which makes sense why your spouse was referred to counselling and so with xianshell's spouse. I spoke with another member here who also got a visa last week and I was told that he is required to take PDOS since his spouse still has permanent residency status in Canada. I hope to hear also from those who was sponsored by filipino-canadian spouses on whether they took PDOS or counselling before departure to Canada.

ummm...all i know is that if you have relationship with someone that does not live in the Philippines then you have to do the counselling. kids and parents do the seminar. i was actually born in the Philippines like you. counselling is acually PDOS plus one on one counselling. they do it this way so you don't have to attend 2 different things, like PDOS and then a one on one counselling. they just bundle it together to make it more convenient for you. i know it sounds confusing...it was to us at first...hope this clarifys it a bit. if u in manila then when u go to the cfo place, the guy at the counter will explain everything to you. he makes it more clear than all those papers and internet info. its actually very simple process. but might take a whole day. u have to go back and forth from 2 different places and will cost at least P500 altogether.
