Does anybody know how officers in CIC branches work with the queue of immigration files ?
Is there any sort of "First In - First Served" rule ? Or it is possible that the file of anybody who applied later that me, would be processed earlier than mine ? I do not take in account Provincial nominees or happy Arranged Employment owners, who already are out of mainstream queue.
If the procedure is not plain and simple "First In - First Served" - is there any rule or principle, which officers follow when choosing the next file to process ?
If you applied at a certain date, does it mean that your processing timeline is not affected by the growing amount of cases by applicants, who applied later than you ? Also, lets not speak now about PNP and Arranged Employment.
Big thanks for the answers ! Let the force and luck be with you !

| there is no evidence to suggest that first-come-first serve rule is not applied but i have reasons to believe that cic officers have some discreet internal guidelines which suggest otherwise..i suppose |

| Can someone please help me: Do I need to have a valid Immigration status here in US in order to apply for Canada's Immigration, I have been living in the US and currently out of status, I have entered the US with a valid B-2 visitors visa and right now I am planning to apply for Canada's Immigration. I have spoken to a lawyer and he advised me that I will have to leave the US and apply if I want to apply as a permanent resident in Canada. NOT sure if this is true. Does anyone know if I have to leave US to get an interview for Canada's residency...Thanks a Lot. Lee |

Shemus it is true, you have to be there legally for oneyear, then you are elligible to apply for Canada. Otherwise you have to apply from your own country. Thanks Cool |

| In the past few applicants out of status in the states can get it but lately I've never heard about it. You can try and who knows you are lucky. Good luck. |

Shemuus,
You only have to have been admitted into the US with a visa that was valid at least a 1 year stay to apply from the US. My understanding is that it doesn't matter that you are now out of status.
See this post.. it starts out with an employment related question from someone illegal in the US but UNIDEN (an expert member) gives good info on your problem. Take a look:
