DID YOU KNOW...
If you are currently on a work permit and then apply for PR and eventually citizenship, each day that you are in Canada under the WORK PERMIT counts towards a 'half day' when calculating your days in Canada to apply for citizenship purposes....

If you have established a business in Canada and want to expand to the USA, you can apply for the L-1 Visa for the states and after operating that business in the states and after holding that Visa for 2 years, you automatically become elegible for the US 'Green Card'. The good thing about this is that you dont need to go through all the horrible waiting process, application process and interview process required for the L-1 Visa using your current citizenship (other then Canadian), as you just pick up the L-1 Visa at the border. However, this is only the case AFTER you have obtained your Canadian citizenship. If you apply for the L-1 visa using your other citizenship whatever that country maybe, then you would have to go through all those proceedures...

Hey Colin - I have to disagree with you there. I am British and am in Canada on a work permit and really, my application has been smooth and easy. Did not have to show a real 'need' to immigrate at all. I have the required points, my permit was approved in one month and my IA arrived in less than a year. My reason to come to Canada is simply a desire to see a bit more of life and other cultures.

Hey Colin - Great work on the thread. BTW, where did you hear that an individual from a developed country like the U.S. or Britian needs a compelling justification to immigrate to Canada? That might make sense for PR cases applied for on Humanitarian and Compassionate grounds. However, for other cases, namely skilled workers, it would seem to be irrelevant (or at least it should be). Nevertheless, I appreciate your work on the site.

Jules, Liberty.

I agree with you regarding your point vis-a-vis Skilled Worker applications. That contribution was submitted by another user and in my haste to reformat and shorten the thread it stayed. While that notion might be an interesting theory, there is no hard evidence to justify that claim.

Thank you for pointing it out.

Hi,

I am planning to apply for permanent residency to Canada. Which application is faster: skilled migration or petition from relatives who are in Canada?

Do you where I can review for IELTS in Manila and where I can take the exam?

Thanks in advance.
