Canada has a list of VISA EXEMPT countries... for example the UK. I can arrive whenever I want to Canada with my passport and so long as I can prove to the IO that I will be going home and have enough funds to support myself, they let me in for "x" number of months, upto a maximum of 6.

Because of this fact, that I do not need a VISA to enter the country, I can simply arrive at a port-of-entry with my LMO and job-contract and get the work PERMIT issued on the spot.

This is not the same for all countries. If you come from a country that is not found on the visa-exemption list on the CIC website (ie. you need to arrange a VISITORS VISA with a Canadian embassy in your home country to even holiday in Canada) then you will need to process your WORK PERMIT and VISA there before departure.

Here is my sorry time line:

1) Provincial office where applied: Edmonton, Alberta
2) Date when application was POSTED:June 20, 2007
3) Date when they recieved the application: no idea
4) Any correspondence or calls received by your employer in between, if yes then the nature of the enquiry and after how many days/weeks did you get an enquiry from them? In Nov and Dec 2007
5) Date when decision made or recieved? still pending
6) Employee is inside or outside Canada? Outside

I've read other horror stories of people applying in Alberta, so I guess Alberta needs to get their act together, still keeping my fingers crossed.

Hello All,

I've read in this forum and others that turnaround on LMO is anywhere from 3-6 weeks, and then I saw the normal turnaround below quoted at 28 days.

I found a company with a blog saying 10 days (Link below). Is it possible to push through that fast??

Thanks all.
