Congratulation! Wow, just a little over a year of process! What type was it? Independent/Skilled Worker? It seems inland application is faster than outside. Did you apply in Edmonton and then submitted to Buffalo, NY?

Hello, and thanks:)
Not too bad of a wait actually, the worst part was the wait for a workpermit (june 15th 06 to April 20th 07).

I applied under family class sponsorship (My fiancee is sponsoring me). We applied to Vegerville in Alberta (from alberta).

As soon as the PR card comes in the mail (4-6 weeks) I could go home on vacation (haven't seen my family since july last year), but I just got a new job, so I don't know if time will allow me to travel:( But at least I can take off whenever I have the chance:D Very happy, and I don't feel like a criminal anymore:S lol

No wonder it's fast. Yours was sponsorship. Others are even faster if it's spouse being sponsored. I guess other types like independent class takes longer.

Ya, I'm not sure how the timelines are for the others. But I don't think it makes any difference if you're common-law partner or spouse. It's the same application! As long as you've been "camping" together for over a year u qualify for this class.

14 months. Quite long compared to out-land applications under the same catergory. The out-land would usually take 10 months if everything is done right.

That all depends on where you live(!), and what office you'll have to apply to. In my case it would have been London, and I see the time there right now is actually 8 months (in more than 80% of the cases). I believe it was 11 months last summer. But we applied from here, after my fiancee got in to school here:) So a few months extra didn't really matter to us. Cause we got to see eachother every day. And the only critical wait for me was the 9 months I waited for my WP. Since April I haven't really worried too much about it:)

Oh I forgot to add...congrats!

Hope I didn't sound negative. :)

Well my in-land would be in Montreal, which I heard is one of the slowests in the country. So I decided to do it in Buffalo. I want to get my PR in a year before I could do an exchange program at my school without losing the international student exemption (I'm taking French courses in Quebec, so I pay the same as Quebec residents). Once a PR...I wouldn't have to worry about losing that exemption since I'd be a real Quebec resident. ^^

lol, not at all:)

Are you doing the same as me? (common-law/spouse sponsoring)

It looks like Buffalo is 12 months. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/05-fc-spouses.asp I couldn't find the timeline for Montreal... where did u find it?

Vegreville has actually dropped to 6-7 months (thats for AIP and a WP though). On the inland the process is done in several steps. First is AIP and WP, after that they do a background check; this might take everything from a few weeks to a few months (in my case 5months).

Yes I am. I'm married to a Canadian.

First my application goes to Mississauga where the average time is 45 days for the AIP. Then it get sent to Buffalo (I'm an American citizen) where it could take an average of 10 months. So yeah, a year about because I need to get the CSQ from Quebec which takes like a month or so after AIP approval and before processing for PR.

About Montreal thing...I heard it in the forum somewhere last week. If I do in-land, I send my application to Vegreville and in 6-7 months, I get my AIP, then another month it takes to get the CSQ, and then Vegreville send my file to Montreal...my current address. It's a pain to do in-land for me and I'm not a patient person. :)
