Hi All,
I'm a new user here and wondering if anyone can give me some information and advice.
I's like to know about accoutancy jobs in Canada. I'm ACCA (Association of chartered certified accountants) member and have 7 years UK experiences (pre and post graduation). From what I've researched, CMA seems to be the popular qualification in Canada. Should I study CMA before I come to Canada or could I get a job with my ACCA qualification?
Also, which part of Canada would be the best for accountants?
Thank you for your help.

Hi,
You will get some compensation from ACCA. BUT you have to be in CANADA to get a CMA. I am also interested to get a CGA since I have only BBA from Finland.
Even NON- PROFIT organization needs accountant to close their account so I guess there are no such places in Canada who does not need an accountant. Try this link:

Thank you for the info.
I just found out that ACCA has mutual recognition agreement with CGA. I'll get more info from ACCA for that.
Some people say accountants can get better opportunities in Australia than Canada. Do you have any idea on that? |

I have a friend who finishing his studies there and he said it's easy to get an accountant job but not sure about the better opportunities. As far as I know that you can get a job in Australia with your UK degree.. Have you checked whether you can get CA from Canada? I am planning to get a CGA and after few years work experience I will establish my own company..in that way you make money. In Finland, they don't know about ACCA/CMA..it's even damn hard to get a proffesional accountant title; fo that you have to work 5 years and should have Master's. Salary is 2700€/ montly...do you think it's better than England? |

I'd say it's more or less the same as in UK. But you don't need a Master degree to get that kind of salary in UK if you have like 3 years work experiences.
But everything else is expensive in UK, i.e.tax, accommodation, travel, etc. |

Hi,
It took me over 6 years (without any exemption and part-time study) to complete it. But it's longer than normal because I was moving to UK after Part 1 and I didn't do well in a couple of sittings. I'd say 4-5 years is a realistic term if you are working while you're studying.
Colleges charge around £350 per paper. So...it's about £4900 for 14 papers. And add ACCA annual fees ( I think it's about £55 per annum for students now) and exam fees (roughly £60 per paper). I found for some papers, home study packagea can be used. They are cheaper than classroom courses as they are about £150 per paper.
Hope it helps. |

| No. It's very hard. I would like to one. You don't have a chance if you don't have a at least a PR and have konwledge on Canadian taxation. If I become a PR I will start CGA which would take 2-5 years but in the long run I will be winner. Have you already applied for PR (SW)? |

nniixx, I don't know whether Canada has CFA but they do have CMA. But CFA is much more higher ( as I know) than CMA.If you done M.com better go for CA.
ratna69, I don't know how to get ajob in Canada without getting there. Canadian wants Canadian work experience. I know few people get jobs straight away and I don't know how. |

HI Guys,
just thought you might be interested there are ACCA offices in Canada. the website provides contacts to members established there and can be used as a resource for those of us who are "in process" for immigration to Canada.
