Hi!! I'm married to a Canadian and I'm a Filipina. Where will you and your soon to be wife are planning to marry??? Please elaborate, I might be able to help.

When my husband went here for our marriage, he brought with him his birth certificate. Then we bought went to the Canadian Embassy in Makati to get the CERTIFICATE OF LEGAL CAPACITY TO MARRY.

You will need the Affidavit statement in-lieu of certification of non-impediment to marriage abroad. This is obtained at the Canadian Emabssy in Manila. I believe it is about $50.00
You will need to apply for a marriage license. This is usually done at city hall of whatever Philippines city you are in.
There is a 10 - 15 day waiting period before the marriage license will be issued. The license will be good for 90 - 120 days.
You will also need your passport and I would also suggest birth certificate, drivers license and Canadian health Card.
You should not need to have the birth certificate certified by foreign affairs. Your original birth certificate is already a certified document. When we say birth certificate, this is not the little laminated card. This is the 11 X 8 legal sized, "yellowish", original birth certificate.
If you have been divorced in the past you will need to provide the legal finalized divorce document.
That should just about do it.
I was married in the Philippines and it was pretty simple process.

10 days is the waiting period from the time you apply for a marriage license in the city you wish to marry until its issued. You have to check with the city you plan to marry as to when to attend a 1/2 day seminar. Its a requirement also for the license. Usually only 1 day of the week is the seminar. You have to submit the seminar certificate with your papers as well. The Dau office we got our license was very accommodating and all they required was my passport, photocopy, the affidavit from the Embassy for legal capacity to marry, copy of my divorce certificate, and they did make a copy of my small birth certificate it was accepted. I did have the luxury of checking all this out 4 months prior to our planned date too. I would also advise your fiancee to get her single status no record of previous marriage certificate from the NSO office now. its also known as a CENOMAR. You will need that for immigration purposes. Anything else we have 2 thread for Philippines here. One is the big Tagalog thread and another for husbands and wives English thread. Welcome to the club!

Hi Andrew. You had to attend a 1/2 day seminar? I never heard of anything like this. My wife and I got married in Davao city.
We filled out the marriage license application form. Waited I guess 10 days. We then picked up the documents and then got married a few days later. No seminar. Some cities do things a little different I guess.

Yes we had a 1/2 day marriage seminar which I think I could have done a better job then the instructor!
The seminar was on Thursday. I guess i could have given an extra tip to the instructor and just got her to sign and issue the document but not my style. As the saying goes...when in Rome...
