Hello.

Im just looking for some help and advice on a letter that i recieved from the High Commision in London. I'm Irish and being sponsered to come to Canada by my wife. My file was recieved and opened in London on September 4th.I was fairly confident i crossed all the t's and dotted all the i's on the application but then i recieved this letter today and here is the jist of it.

"Please be aware that in order to complete RCMP criminal checks, it is necessary for you to provide a full set of fingerprints taken and certified by the UK police (i lived there for 3 years ). This is at the request of the RCMP; fingerprints are to be obtained and forwarded to them to determine whether you do, in fact, have a record.

Any costs with this are your own responsibility. You may want to show the police officer taking your fingerprints a copy of this letter. Once full set of fingerprints are obtained please forward them on to RCMP, Canada".

This is one letter i did not want to get on a Friday evening after work. I have already included a police certificate for the UK in my application where i had to get an official set of finger prints from the irish police and send them over to the UK in order to get my UK police cert. This is very frustrating for me and im wondering if the Canadian high commision have made a mistake or misplaced my UK police cert.

Im not living in the UK but now it seems i have to get time off work, pay for flights and accomadation to go over there and even then i dont think i can just waltz into a police station and ask for a set of my prints. I also dont like the way one part of the letter siad my prints should be forwarded to RCMP to "determine if you do, in fact have a record". I have a clean record but that sentance seems to be implying that maybe i dont!

Im also thinking that when they done the crimanal check for the UK some wanted criminal with the same name as myself popped up and thats why they want the prints in person from the UK police.

Ive also lived in Australia and now im terrified im gonna get the same kind of letter to get me to go down there to get prints. IMPOSSIBLE!

Has anyone got a letter like this or can anyone help or give advice.

Would be much apprieciated. Thank you

If I am reading correctly they are asking for "Please be aware that in order to complete RCMP criminal checks"

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm

To complete this process you must go to a police station in your country, some countries like Venezuela will not take your fingerprints unless you have a letter by the Canadian Embassy.

You should call your embassy and ask why the UK? and not Ireland where you are at. It may have been a mistake.

Check the link I provided to see how the procedure is done.

Good luck.

Thanks for the info you provided.

Actually after calming down i read over the letter again a few times and now realise that its a request for fingerprints for a police check for Canada(I lived there for a year). Its the fact that they wanted me to obtain it from the UK police threw me off and i thought it was something to do with a UK police check even though i already provided a UK police cert. The bad news for me now though is according to that link you gave, my canadian police check could take up to 4 monthes. Not looking forward to telling my wife this.

If you can get them done digitally then the report can be done much more quickly. I don't know too much about that but PMM has written stuff about it.
