I need your advice of what this mean. I applied to sponsor my husband in June 08, we got a letter this week stating:
“ Previous correspondence, informed that you have been granted an exemption from certain legislative requirement and that you must meet all other statutory requirement of the immigration and refugee protection act. A final determination on whether you meet statutory requirement can only be made at an examination interview” We have an interview for Dec 15th 08.
I did not receive any approval letter or AIP for the CIC. I was under the impression that I get the approval first then go for interview. Here is my timeline: We received your application to sponsor on June 24, 2008. We started processing your application on December 2, 2008. We sent you a letter on December 2, 2008 about the decision on your application. Please consider delays in mail delivery before contacting us.
What should we expect? has anyone been to the Mississauga office for interview? Do you have some example questions that you were asked?
Has anyone gotten this type of reply? I appreciate your help with this matter. |

I think this interview is the final landing interview where they will ask you some simple questions to finallize your application to make your partner become a PR... Your timeline is a little different than others because they processed and made decision on the same day!

nicegirl - First of all, I disagree that this is the final landing interview. "Decision Made" on December 2nd is possibly first stage approval - but that doesn't mean processing is finished. It's far too early in the process for this to be the final DM.
When you say you were under the impression that he'd get approved and then have an interview, I think that maybe you didn't understand that there are sometimes two interviews that take place . . . there is always the landing interview at the end of the process, after the applicant has been approved. That interview is just a formality where they ask a couple of questions and the applicant signs the landing papers. But there can also be an interview during processing, to verify information or to determine eligibility. This quote from the letter you received: quote: Previous correspondence informed that you have been granted an exemption from certain legislative requirement and that you must meet all other statutory requirement of the immigration and refugee protection act. A final determination on whether you meet statutory requirement can only be made at an examination interview
indicates that this will be an eligibility interview. What types of questions are asked will depend on the reason for the interview, and it's difficult for us to determine what that might be from the information we have here. Do you have any idea what "exemption from certain legislative requirements" was/were granted. That'd be a good start.

| They start processing and made a decision regarding my eligiblility to sponsor my husband the same day as well. We waited a week before we actually received the letter. My husband also received his letter saying he was eligible to apply for PR the same day and that he needed to submit fingerprints for RCMP check.(although his Ecas hasn't been updated) |

nicegirl: I also received that kind of letter from the local CIC office. I am also puzzled by that since I dont received any previous correspondence from them that says about that certain exemption. Still I believe that my coming interview is for Landing because the letter that I received from Vegreville says that I am eligible to be sponsored by my wife, and the ECAS says that "Decision has been made".
Hopefully anybody who had that same letter and done the interview can shed some light into this.
here is my timeline:
April 8, 2008 - pr application received May 5, 2008 - started processing October 8, 2008 - Decision Made October 14, 2008 - received letter from Vegreville November 24, 2008 - letter from local cic (edmonton) sent November 26, 2008 - letter from local cic (Edmonton) received December 10, 2008 - schedule for interview

Thank you for replying to my request. We never received any previous correcpondance from them at all so I don’t have any idea as to what they are referring by this statement: “exemption from certain legislative requirements".
Has anyone received a similar letter? If Yes, I appreciate your comments and advice.
Need advice.. thx

I don't agree with most of the posters here and not with what Robbiesluv said.
Nicegirl, Listen carefully and trust me on this one. Congratulations! It is a good news. Do NOT be scared by the wording of the letter. It is a good news, it is NOT AIP. It is final decision made and it is a positive one. I know the wording on the letter is very confusing but do not worry. It is definitely a landing interview and nothing else. And most probably it is going to take a few minutes and you are only going to be asked a few questions basically if you have any other dependents, if you have been arrested or have had any problem with the law since you applied etc. So relax and just show up there a few minutes before they have called you with the photos, passport and other things mentioned on the letter. Congrats once again! And yes depending on the office, your sponsor(spouse) must attend it with you. Good luck.

| Albela - I sincerely hope you're right, that would be awesome. But how can you say for sure? Nicegirl - did the letter ask you to bring your passport or photos (for the PR card), because you didn't mention any of that earlier. |

Hi Robbiesluv, The letter also mentioned that my husband will need to bring 2 passport photos and for me, I only need to come with him and bring all docs that show my status. They did not ask for anything more. I will provide some updates on how the interview went at what type of questions were asked. Thank you all so much for your feedback

I wanted to inform you that I have received my approval letter today. I am now confident that the interview is for the Landing interview. Check your mailbox, you may have received yours too.
Good luck... |

Hi Everyone, I went to our interview yesterday and it was quick and a pleasant experience. The lady was nice and she just wanted to make sure the information on my husband paper work was correct. She did not even ask any questions about our relationship. It took about 15 minutes. The Mississauga office is very organized and has good and friendly employees. Thank you all for your feedback
