I got my AIP earlier this year too, on Humanitarian and compassionate as well. I guess that they are still doing BC as well.
Joe_1 , I guess that they couldn't ask for background check for your brother 2 years ago because he was still a minor... Hang in there, you are almost there. Afi |

Background check is also a waiting game for CSIS who conducts it as requested by CIC. CSIS in turn goes to the respective countries of the PR applicant to perform the checks. So if the applicant's country of origin and other places he/she resided do not have a quick turnaround, there's not much that CSIS can do but follow-up which results in CIC also not being able to move the file to the next step.
For as long as you know that you have a clear record, patience is the only thing we've got to keep us going until we receive the good news. I am not sure when our background check was commenced but our AIP inland came through in June 2009 which we believe at that time they started the background check. We did not receive PR until October 2010. We filed application back in 2007. Long wait but once you reach the finish line, it's all good. We just had to keep faith and live day by day. Stress is not a factor we allowed to rule our lives while waiting.
Good luck to you all who are still waiting.

well i have been waiting for the past 2 n half years but no response yet....We r still waiting for background check...I am thinking of calling them but i have heard rumours that they delay the processing time if they receive calls. Not sure how accurate that information is but still makes me nervous of giving them a call. What do u guys think : should i call them? or wait until they respond?

Joe_1, is that 2 years in process of the application or 2 years waiting for background check to be completed? If it is the latter, contact the call centre. I believe some even directly contact CSIS. I have come across a forum entry on the web providing how to go about contacting CSIS but I just can't remember which forum since that was about 3 years ago that I came across it. If you still end up waiting for another 6 months, perhaps contact your local MP and ask for their assistance. |
