IT Worker Program - August 2009

The IT Worker Program was created in 1997 and has since been extended many times.

The IT Worker Program is intended to attract workers who will become employed in the software sector in Canada on a temporary basis.

The program provides applicants with a fast track/ expedited exemption process for temporary admission to Canada under a work permit.

In order to qualify for this expedited process, a foreign national must be seeking employment in one of the following areas of employment:

  1. Embedded Systems Software Designer;
  2. Software Products Developer;
  3. MIS Software Designer;
  4. Multimedia Software Developer;
  5. Senior Animation Effects Editor;
  6. Software Developer - Services; and
  7. Telecommunications Software Designer

Required skills and experience, education, language ability, and an appropriate wage/salary are specified for each job description.

Applicants who are admitted to Canada under this program may also qualify for Canadian permanent residence under applicable programs.
