The Procedures for Issuance and Renewal of Work and Study Permits
The Applications for Work Permits
Live-in caregivers that are already in Canada would need to apply for:
- A work permit renewal prior to the expiry of their current work permit or,
- A new work permit if they change employers or if their employer moves to another province or territory
As such, applicants would need to complete the Application to Change Conditions, Extend My Stay or Remain in Canada (IMM 1249). They would need to submit this to the Case Processing Centre in Vegreville, Alberta (CPC-V). Applicants could request the application kit by mail or by contacting the Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) Call Centre. Alternatively, they could consider downloading this from the website of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC).
Note:
- The authorities typically require applicants to submit the following documents along with their applications:
- The proof of fee payment at a financial institution and,
- Copies of the new or extended employment contracts signed by both the employers and the live-in caregivers
