Immigration.ca - Canada Immigration News - December 2008

The provinces of Canada have signed a deal that will allow workers full mobility within the country.

The deal, announced last week, will be implemented next spring and was the result of years of effort, most of which originating from Alberta and British Columbia.

Prior to the deal, skilled workers who were certified to practice their profession in one province would usually have to become recertified should they relocate to another province. The process often involves paperwork, examinations and delays of up to several months.

Under what is officially known as the Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA), provincial certifications will be recognized by all provinces.

In 2006, B.C. and Alberta signed their own precursory labour mobility agreement in an attempt to ease labour shortage pressures resulting from the economic boom in the West.
