According to the latest figures from Statistics Canada, this year's third quarter population growth rates were higher than any other third quarter since 1990.
Between July and October of this year, the population of Canada grew by 129,000 to sit at 33,441,300. All provinces and territories, with the exception of the Northwest Territories, saw an increase in population while Alberta experienced the highest level of growth.
Across Canada, immigration has been credited for the latest figures. During this time, Canada saw over 70,000 new arrivals. Experts are citing more aggressive immigration campaigns as the cause of these increases, especially in regions not traditionally associated with resettlement, such as Prince Edward Island.
"Immigrants used to head mainly to Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia, and they're still going there," said a senior analyst for Statistics Canada, "but they're also spreading out across the country in unprecedented numbers."
