Immigration.ca - Canada Immigration News - March 2007

TORONTO -- Conservative MP Jason Kenney, the Secretary of State for Multiculturalism, is blaming professional regulatory agencies, such as the non-governmental bodies that regulate the legal and medical professions, within provincial jurisdiction for difficulties immigrants have in getting foreign credentials recognized in Canada. These non-governmental bodies create the politics of closed labour markets that make it difficult for newcomers to enter.

According to Kennedy, the Harper government cannot expect to move forward unless 440 such agencies break down the barriers that keep new Canadians from working in their chosen profession. At a diversity conference, Kennedy stated that economic integration is the No. 1 concern of new Canadians and immigrants in search of a more prosperous life.
