Immigration.ca - Canada Immigration News - March 2008

Last week the Ministry of Immigration announced increasing funding to assist immigrants arriving in Brampton, Ontario. The funds will be delivered to the Brantford YMCA’s Immigrant Settlement and Adaptation Program, whose mandate is to provide orientation, referral and counseling services.

Immigration Minister Diane Finley emphasized the importance of resettlement programs, saying that the government is “committed to helping newcomers succeed.”

This commitment has been manifested in recent times with the Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement (COIA), which has, in the past five years, been working to develop resettlement services with over $920 million in government funding.

Resettlement programs have been established to assist new arrivals throughout the country. They provide a range of services from language instruction to job training and placement assistance, as well as providing immigrants with a sense of community involvement. Canada realizes the importance of immigration and policies such as these, being implemented throughout the nation, reflect that awareness.
