According to the latest United Nations rankings, Canadians enjoy the fourth best quality of life in the world.
The U.N. Development Program’s Human Development Index ranks countries annually on quality of life, using statistics on life expectancy, income and education.
While Norway, Australia and Iceland were ranked the top three countries, respectively, Canada came in fourth, with one of the highest life expectancy rates of all at 80 years. The United States was ranked 13th on the list and Niger was lowest of the 182 countries analyzed.
The Department in charge of the Index highlighted the benefits of migration, both for those individuals who are seeking to improve their quality of life, as well as for those countries seeking to strengthen aging workforces.
“Most migrants, internal and international, reap gains in the form of higher incomes, better access to education and health and improved prospects for their children,” the report stated. “These gains often directly benefit family members who stay behind as well as countries of origin indirectly.”
