This section contains details on policy, procedures and guidance that Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) staff typically use. The authorities have posted this on the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) website as a courtesy to stakeholders.
The Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) aims to bring qualified temporary workers to Canada. The provisions of this program permit these individuals to provide:
-
In-home child care
-
Senior home support care or,
-
Care for the disabled
The Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) permits applicants to apply for permanent residence from within Canada. However, applicants would need to ensure that they meet the time in Canada and other prescribed requirements.
Note:
-
On November 30, 2014, the authorities replaced the Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) with two new pathways to permanent residence for caregivers, namely:
-
The Caring for Children Class and,
-
The Caring for People with High Medical Needs Class
-
-
The people who are eligible for applying for permanent residence under the provisions of the former Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) include:
-
People who are already working in Canada with Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) work permits or,
-
People who have already received the approval for their first Live-in Caregiver Program (LCP) work permit
-
However, in this case, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) would need to have received an employer’s positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) application on or prior to November 30, 2014
