Newfoundland has three streams under which individuals can apply for PNP nomination: The Skilled Worker Stream, Immigrant Entrepreneur Stream, and Immigrant Partner Stream. The latter two are both business programs.
Program Details
The skilled worker stream does not formally require applicants to be in Newfoundland on a work permit, but this is highly recommended as preference is given to such candidates. An approved job offer is a requirement, regardless. There is no list of eligible occupations: the onus is on the employer to demonstrate a shortage irrespective of the occupation. Applicants on a work permit must have maintained employment in Newfoundland for 6 months before applying for PNP nomination. Like New Brunswick, individuals must score 50 points or higher under an assessment process. Applicants must complete a preliminary assessment form, which will determine their eligibility to apply under the PNP program. This pre-assessment process concludes in a few weeks. Once the preliminary process concludes favourably, applicants then submit the necessary supporting documentation to qualify for Provincial nomination.
The Immigrant Entrepreneur Stream and the Immigrant Partner Stream apply to individuals who intend to start new businesses or invest in existing ones, respectively. They must demonstrate sufficient experience and net worth, prepare a business plan and undertake an exploratory visit.
The Numbers
There is a $1000 application fee for the skilled worker stream and a $2000 application fee under the Immigrant Entrepreneur Stream and the Immigrant Partner Stream in addition to the regular CIC fees that apply to all applicants to Canada.
