The Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program expedites immigration to Canada for individuals and their families who meet provincial criteria in support of four initiatives: increased business and economic development, increased supply of skilled workers, increased population and achievement of provincial demographic, social and cultural objectives. There are four categories under which candidates can apply.

  • Immigrant Partner Category

This category is intended for prospective immigrants proposing to make a $200 000 investment in a PEI company and take an active role in this company (director of senior manager). Applications must go through a recognized PEI Investment Intermediary. A good faith deposit of $25 000 is required and is fully refundable one year after landing provided that the Immigrant Partner can demonstrate that he/she is active in the company and he/she and his/her family maintain a residence in PEI In addition, they must meet requirements related to age, education, work experience and language abilities. A $2500 processing fee is charged.

  • Immigrant Entrepreneur Category

Candidates in this category must have a minimum net worth of $400 000 and invest at least $200 000 to establish a new enterprise. As above, a $25 000 good faith deposit is required as well as a combination of age, education and transferrable management skills. Specific to the PEI PNP, if the applicant’s English or French language skills are insufficient, they are required to place $20 000 in escrow with the PEI government. The money is returned if the applicant demonstrates moderate English or French skills one year after arriving in PEI.

  • Immigrant Connections Category

This program allows Canadian citizens or permanent residents (Champions) who have established themselves in PEI to tell PEI who their “Connections” are (who they would like to see nominated). It is an honour-based program, which is to say that there is no need for the Champions to sign a formal agreement or provide a financial guarantee. PEI is looking for people and families who Champions believe can earn a living on PEI and who will make a long term, meaningful commitment to the Champion’s life and to the broader community. In terms of eligibility, Champions must have lived in PEI for at least two years and have a regular source of income as well as an unblemished personal history. The nominee must be an eligible family member (a list of eligible family members was made by the PEI government) and they must have either a job offer or an identified capacity to work in PEI. There is a $250 processing fee.

  • Skilled Worker Category

This category is designed to resolve labour shortages. Candidates must have an offer of employment as well as minimum language, age, education and employment requirements.
