July 5, 2017 – The Ontario immigration office has issued a list of National Occupational Classification codes for the technology professionals it recently targeted under the Human Capital Priorities Stream.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) dropped its minimum Canada Express Entry score requirement specifically for skilled and experienced ICT workers for the week commencing June 26, 2017.
ICT candidates who met all other requirements and who also have work experience, were exempt from the need to score at least 400 Comprehensive Ranking System points.

An Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program statement said the move to initiate week-long exemptions for certain occupations is a strategy to “identify more candidates with experience in some of Ontario’s priority sectors and in demand occupations”.
Candidates still need to meet all other requirements for the Human Capital Priorities stream. Ontario immigration wants potential Human Capital Priorities Stream candidates to create new Express Entry profiles to make them easier to spot.
Ontario Express Entry: Human Capital Priorities Stream
To qualify applicants must have:
- Pending application under the Canada Express Entry system;
- Work Experience: Either
- one year work experience within the past five years for the Federal Skilled Workers Program, or
- one year work experience within the past three years for the Canadian Experience Class;
- Canadian equivalent Bachelors degree, Masters degree or PhD;
- Minimum CLB level 7 in IELTS general exam;
- Sufficient settlement funds;
- Intention to reside in Ontario.
This is the second job-specific announcement OINP officials have made in 2017 concerning the Human Capital Priorities Stream.
Back in April the province identified a specific need for NOC 4145 (professional occupations in religion) and NOC 4217 (other religious occupations).
OINP supports employers by facilitating the immigration of managerial, professional and skilled foreign workers and international students required to meet their human resources needs.
There are five streams under which candidates can apply directly for Ontario immigration nomination: Employer Pre-Screened, International Student (Masters Graduate), International Student (PhD Graduate), Investor Immigration (Corporate) and Investor Immigration (Entrepreneur).

The province also has two Express Entry streams targeting applicants who have the requisite qualifications, including education, experience, language proficiency and ability to successfully establish in Ontario and contribute to the province’s economic development.
Important: OINP Application Deadlines
If you receive an notification of interest from Ontario immigration, it is valid for six months. This means you have six months to register a profile on the OINP e-Filing Portal.
However, once that profile is registered, you have 14 calendar days to submit your completed application.
The province has faced problems with applicants registering their profile, but thinking they still have six months to complete an application.
