April 17, 2018 – The Ontario immigration office has issued two new Notification of Interest rounds under the province’s Express Entry streams for French Speaking Skilled Workers and Skilled Trades.
In draws dated April 11 and 12, 2018, the province issued a total of 142 NOIs under the two streams.
The April 11 draw focused on Skilled Trades candidates. This draw saw 87 NOIs issued to candidates who submitted their Canada Express Entry profiles between January 1 and April 11, 2018.
The April 12 draw focused on French Speaking Skilled Worker candidates. This draw saw 55 NOIs issued to candidates who submitted their Canada Express Entry profiles between January 1 and April 12, 2018.
There are no minimum scores for either the Skilled Trades or French Speaking Skilled Worker streams.
Ontario Express Entry: French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream
To qualify applicants must have:
- Pending application under the Federal Express Entry system;
- Minimum of 1-year of full time, or full time equivalent work experience under NOC occupation level 0, A or B;
- Canadian equivalent Bachelors degree, Masters degree or PhD;
- Minimum CLB level 7 in TEF exam;
- Intention to reside in the Province on Ontario;
- Minimum of 400 points under the Federal Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System.
Ontario Express Entry: Skilled Trades Stream
The Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream targets skilled trades workers in the construction and agricultural sectors, but could be expanded in the future.
To qualify applicants must have:
- Pending application under the Federal Express Entry system;
- At least 12 months of paid cumulative or continuous Ontario work experience with the last two years prior to your Notification of Interest in National Occupation Classification 633, or major groups 72, 73 or 82;
- Proof of Ontario license or certification if your occupation so requires;
- A valid work permit and be resident in Ontario at the time of application;
- English or French-language level of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 or above in reading, writing, listening and speaking;
- Proof of settlement fund to cover you and your dependents, with the minimum amount determined by official Low Income Cut-Offs.
The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) began publishing information about specific draws at the beginning of 2018. It comes after the province signed an immigration agreement with Canada’s federal government at the end of 2017.
This was the second recent draw under the FSSW and Skilled Trades streams.
The previous FSSW draw was made on March 27, 2018, and saw 10 NOIs issued to candidates who submitted their Canada Express Entry profiles between January 1 and March 27, 2018.
The previous Skilled Trades draw was made on March 28, 2018, and saw 149 NOIs issued to candidates who submitted their Canada Express Entry profiles between January 1 and March 28, 2018.
Ontario has also conducted several Human Capital Priorities and Entrepreneur Stream draws so far in 2018.

The OINP has received an increased federal government allocation for 2018 of 6,600 nominations, up 600 on the number for 2017.
The province is currently accepting applications for all but one of its immigration streams.

Together with HCP, other open streams include the Employer Job Offer streams for Foreign Workers, International Students and In-Demand Skills, the Express Entry streams for French-Speaking Skilled Workers and Skilled Trades, plus the Corporate and Entrepreneur business streams.
Ontario’s International Student PhD Graduate stream is also currently open, while the Masters Graduate stream is now closed after twice briefly opening so far in 2018.
