Most Popular 2019 Ontario Immigration Tech Occupations

Ontario launch Tech Draws through the Human Capital Priorities stream in 2019, with a resultant slew of nominations going to candidates with IT experience.

Software engineers and designers saw the most nominations, with 935, while computer programmers and interactive media developers received 598 nominations.

These number are expected to grow again in 2020, with Tech Draws an established part of the OINP landscape.

              Francophone Immigration

Francophone candidates made up 6.1 per cent of Ontario’s total nominations in 2019, beating the province’s 5 per cent target.

With Quebec reducing numbers of skilled immigrants, francophones can currently find better opportunities for immigration outside the French-speaking province.

The OINP welcomed most francophones through the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream and the Human Capital Priorities Stream.

              Entrepreneur Immigration

While a grand total of zero Entrepreneur Stream nominations were issued by Ontario in 2019, the province reported that 7 candidates are in the final stages of the process, meaning they are already in Ontario on a work permit.

“These 7 Entrepreneur Stream candidates are anticipated to invest over $30 million and hire 136 Ontarians as a result of establishing their businesses in Ontario,” the province said.

              2019 Ontario Immigration: Demand

Ontario says that demand by far exceeded supply of nominations in 2019, strengthening its call for an increased allocation.

Many of Ontario’s most popular streams had to be paused throughout the year as a result of this demand.

At the extreme end, the Ontario Masters Graduate Stream was only open for two days in 2019.

The Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream and Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream were open for 116 days and 143 days respectively, while the remaining streams remained open the whole year.

“Higher levels of interest in Ontario as a destination for prospective permanent residents was also reflected in the program’s Express Entry streams, leading the program to increase the CRS scores used to issue Notifications of Interests,” the province said.
