Figures from Statistics Canada show a surprise increase in Canadian employment in March, with 28,700 new jobs created. Though better than expected, analysts say the figures are not entirely positive, as the jobs created were entirely part-time positions, and they masked a drop in full-time jobs. The latest employment figures from Statistics Canada show a decline of by 112,000 jobs in the private sector in August, resulting in an overall drop in employment of 11,000. Only last month the agency botched the July jobs report, erroneously claiming the economy added just 200 new jobs, when it fact the figure was 42,000.

A new report suggests that the Canadian unemployment rate will likely not spark inflation in the near future.
